Pope Benedict XVI Was NOT a Nazi

These days the word "Nazi" gets thrown around at everyone from feminists to President Bush. And, again, we hear it used as an attack on Pope Benedict XVI. He was in the Hitler Youth but only because it was compulsory for all young German men. And he joined unwillingly.

This AFP story should clear up any confussion. And it will hopefully end the slanderous claims that Benedict XVI was a Nazi.

In all the hoopla about the new Pope and what or what not he may have done in the war, please remember that the man was only 18 when the war was over. Really, there are few countries where teenagers are on a policy-making level. There may be many things to to criticise the man for but when people try to fault him for what he did as a teenager it's just a bit ridiclous. He was born in 1927 -- do the arithmetic
