Wizards Win First Playoff Series Since 1982

The Washington Wizards have won a playoff series for the first time in 23 years.

That’s right. 23 years. In contrast, the Dallas Mavericks have won 8 playoff series in that time—and they’ve only existed for 25 years.

So, what was going on when the then Washington Bullets won that last playoff series in 1982? Let’s see:

• Joan Jett’s “I Love Rock N’ Roll” tops the charts
• Argentina invades the Falklands, Britain wins the subsequent war
• Helmet Kohl begins his endless run as Chancellor of Germany
• Yuri Andropov becomes the leader of the Soviet Union
• John Beluishi dies
• Ma Bell is broken up into regional companies
• Prince William of England is born
• ET hits theaters, racks up huge box office sales
• Princess Grace of Monaco dies in an automobile accident
• The Personal Computer is Time Magazine’s Man of the Year
• The Yellow Line’s Alan Carl turns 8, enters second grade

Congrats to the Wizards. It’s fun times in the nation’s capital.
