How About the Top People Making America Better

Joe Gandelman at The Moderate Voice is reporting on a new book that lists the top 100 people who are screwing up America. The Top 10 have been released and all are liberals. In fact, from reports, almost all the top 100 are liberals or at least Democrats.

So, basically, author Bernard Goldberg is just listing liberals and then saying they’re screwing up America. Yep. That’s the usual line. Fun new packaging, though.

The Moderate Voice is taking nominations for who readers think should appear on a real Top 100 list. I’ve got a different idea. How about a list of the top people who are making America better? I know, not as provocative, but probably more worthwhile. It is harder to praise than to criticize, after all.

Feel free to chime in with your own suggestions (not your criticisms of my suggestions). Here’s my top few in no particular order and woefully incomplete.

John McCain

Jon Stewart

Anne Applebaum

John Edwards

Jim Wallis

Melinda Gates

The Men and Women of the Armed Services

Jimmy Carter makes the list??? Granted Carter was pretty much of a loss as President. But he has to rank as the second best EX-President since the Civil War (and probably ever). I don't agree with him on everything, but there's no question that he's at least been working diligently to make the world a better place.

P.S. Anybody who didn't manage to identify our BEST ex-President as Herbert Hoover (another less than stellar performer as President): time to take a history class.

I agree with "anonymous on Carter. That is a man who should be admired by EVERYONE. Who in their right mind actually thinks Dubya is will be out building homes for needy people once he's out of office? Or his daddy . . . or Bill Clinton? Carter has worked more on peace, fairness, human rights, and helping people that any other person I can think of, let alone, former presidents!

Bernard Goldberg obviously has an axe to grind with liberals. Perhaps he sees them as an obstacle to total domination by the extreme right. If that's his problem, then Hallelujah, put me on the list, too! I'll be glad to put up a few philosophical barricades.
